Keep It Cozy: 5 Tips for a Cozier Heater Season

There’s a chill in the morning air. The days are getting shorter. Pumpkin spice is everywhere. Time to put away the fans, say goodbye to air conditioning, and adjust the thermostat to meet the dropping temperatures. Heater season is here, and it’s the coziest time of the year. This heater season, make sure you’re ready to be warm and comfy all autumn and winter long. Here are five ways to prepare.

1) Save Some Energy

Heater season means keeping warm when it’s cold outside – but that doesn’t mean breaking the bank. Being cozy is all about relaxation, and it’s tough to relax when you know that your home furnace is eating into your finances. Rather than spending money monthly to heat your whole house (especially when the rooms are empty, or you and your family are out most of the day), use an efficient ceramic heater to warm up a room. A small compact heater can save you money without jeopardizing your comfort or taking up much space, and a room-sized ceramic heater also keeps the family warm while you spend time together in your finished basement or den.

2) Embrace a Cozy Activity

The art of being cozy has gained popularity in recent years with “hygge,” a Danish term the Oxford Dictionary describes as a “quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being.” There’s no real English word equivalent to “hygge” (pronounced hoo-guh), but cozy is about as close as it can get. The New Yorker declares that Danish doctors recommend “tea and hygge” as a cure for the common cold, with woolen socks, candles, and flannel blankets essential to setting a cozy atmosphere. This heater season, embrace “hygge” by snuggling up and warming the room with a pedestal heater or a tabletop heater to keep you toasty.  Catch up on that book you’ve been meaning to read, work on an arts and crafts project, play a video game, or queue up a favorite show for binge watching. Gather the whole family, and relax and unwind together in a warm, inviting space.

3) Pour Yourself a Hot, Seasonal Drink

There’s a reason pumpkin spice is everywhere in autumn – the perfect combined taste of cinnamon, spices, and pumpkin in a hot beverage invokes a feeling of comfort inside and out. Not big on the pumpkin spice trend? Warm apple cider heated on the stove top offers the same seasonal feel without the caffeine. Add cinnamon or clove to give it an extra kick. Mulled wine and egg nog go hand-in-hand with winter weather. And of course, you can never go wrong with a traditional cup of coffee or a hot mug of tea. Seasonal creamers add festive flavors to your cup o’ joe, and real cream or freshly squeezed lemon juice added to a tea make it an affordable special occasion drink.

4) Give Your Space Some Ambiance

There’s nothing like enjoying your hot beverage or flannel PJs in front of a roaring fire. If your home has a fireplace, this is the time of the year to use it. If you have a traditional log-burning hearth, remember to follow all basic safety instructions when lighting and using your fireplace. Keep warm air in and cool air out by closing the flue when your fire is not in use. As an alternative for homes without a fireplace (or if the thought of lugging logs into the living room isn’t really relaxing), there are electric heaters and ceramic heaters that are both stylish and functional. Traditional heaters tend to blend into the background. The Ultra Ceramic Fireplace Heater offers the appearance of a fireplace without the hassle. Place it in your master bedroom for instant romantic lighting, or use it in the family room as a focal point to gather around. Designer Series Ceramic Heaters offer fashionable design elements to match your personal flair and home decor.

5) Shake Out the Sweaters

They don’t call it sweater weather for nothing. To keep costs down this season, break out the sweaters that have been languishing in the back of the closet all summer. A fluffy sweater, an old school sweatshirt, or a simple cardigan can keep the chill at bay without raising the thermostat. Shopping for a new look? Choose an autumnal orange, gold, cranberry red or chocolate brown to keep up the seasonal mood. The winter holiday season is ripe for ugly sweater parties – find an early contender at a thrift shop or local Goodwill before the holiday rush. For the ultimate in luxury, a remote controlled tower heater & fan in one can keep things hot at the touch of a button – and quickly add a cooling breeze it back down to prevent the room from getting too stuffy. (All while keeping the sweat out of your sweater!) Snuggle up on the sofa in your favorite sweater, click on your heater, and enjoy the season.
